Cyclone Type Dust Collector for Steel Industry

Heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant cyclone dust collectors engineered specifically for steel plants and metal manufacturing – from blast furnaces to rolling mills.

When steel manufacturers across India need rugged, reliable, and abrasion-resistant dust collection solutions for their demanding processes, they turn to Shivam Engineering & Fabrication. As a leading cyclone dust collector manufacturer for the steel industry, we have supplied hundreds of units to integrated steel plants, sponge iron plants, rolling mills, and foundries across the country. Our cyclone dust collectors are engineered for continuous 24/7 operation in harsh, high-temperature, highly abrasive environments – perfectly suited for the demanding conditions of steel manufacturing.

Why Steel Plants Need Heavy-Duty Cyclone Dust Collectors

The steel industry involves processes with extreme temperatures, heavy dust loads, and highly abrasive particulate (iron ore dust, sinter dust, coke dust, scale). Our specially designed cyclone dust collectors feature:

  • Abrasion-Resistant Construction – Hardox/AR plate, ceramic tile lining, or heavy-duty MS with wear liners.
  • High-Temperature Capability – Up to 500°C for sinter plant and blast furnace applications.
  • High Collection Efficiency – 85-95% for steel plant dust particles down to 10-20 microns.
  • Heavy Dust Load Handling – Can handle inlet dust concentrations up to 100 g/m³ or more.
  • Low Maintenance – No moving parts, minimal maintenance requirements.
  • Heavy-Duty Construction – Designed for 24/7 continuous operation.
  • Rotary Airlock or Double Flap Valve – Dust discharge without pressure loss.

Key Applications of Cyclone Dust Collectors in Steel Industry

1. Blast Furnace Dust Collection

Primary gas cleaning cyclones for blast furnace top gas to remove coarse dust before wet scrubbers or bag filters. Handles high-temperature, abrasive dust at 200-400°C.

2. Sinter Plant Dust Collection

Cyclones for sinter plant exhaust gas to capture sinter dust before ESPs or bag filters. Highly abrasive sinter dust requires abrasion-resistant construction (Hardox/AR plate or ceramic lining).

3. Coke Oven Dust Collection

Dust collection from coke oven charging, pushing, and quenching operations. Cyclones as pre-cleaners for bag filters.

4. Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) / Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Dust

Primary dust collection from BOF/EAF off-gas systems. High-temperature (up to 1000°C) cyclones with refractory lining required.

5. Rolling Mill Dust & Scale Collection

Collecting scale dust and particulate from rolling mill exhaust, scale breakers, and cooling beds. Moderate temperature, moderate abrasion.

6. Raw Material Handling

Dust collection from crushers, screens, conveyors, and transfer points handling iron ore, limestone, dolomite, and coke.

7. Sponge Iron (DRI) Plant

Dust collection from kiln exhaust and material handling in direct reduced iron plants.

Working Principle of Cyclone Dust Collector

The cyclone dust collector operates on centrifugal force. Dust-laden air enters the cyclone tangentially through the inlet, creating a vortex. Heavier dust particles are thrown outward against the cyclone wall by centrifugal force, then slide down to the dust discharge outlet (hopper). Clean air spirals up through the inner vortex and exits through the top outlet. In steel plant applications, collected dust is often returned to the process via a rotary airlock or double flap valve.

Frequently Asked Questions – Cyclone Dust Collector for Steel Industry

1. What is the typical efficiency of a blast furnace gas cleaning cyclone?

Blast furnace primary cyclones typically achieve 85-95% collection efficiency for coarse dust particles (10 microns). The collected dust (flue dust) contains iron oxide and can be recycled back to the sinter plant.

2. What material is best for sinter plant cyclone due to high abrasion?

For sinter plant cyclones handling highly abrasive sinter dust, we recommend Hardox/AR 500 plate with ceramic tile lining in the inlet scroll and cone section. This combination provides excellent abrasion resistance and extended service life.

3. Can cyclones be used as the primary dust collector for EAF off-gas?

Yes, cyclones are often used as primary dust collectors for EAF off-gas to remove coarse particles (spark arrestors) before the bag filter. The high-temperature design requires refractory lining and water-cooled sections in some cases.

4. What is the typical delivery time for a steel plant cyclone?

Standard material handling cyclones: 15-20 days. Sinter plant and blast furnace cyclones (Hardox + ceramic lining): 30-40 days. High-temperature cyclones with refractory lining: 45-60 days based on size.
